Triggers of Asthma Attack

People with asthma experience inflammation in their lungs. This inflammation causes contraction of muscle and restriction of airway, which in turn causes cough, chest tightness, and breathing difficulties. There are a lot of things that can trigger asthma attack, including storm. Storm causes numerous allergens (including pollen) to spread everywhere because of the wind.

As cited from Boldsky, here are the list of asthma triggers:

  1. Allergens
There are numerous allergens that can trigger asthma attack, including pollen, dust, algae, animal faeces, and cockroach.

  2. Sports
Although exercising is good for your body, it is a risky activity for asthma patients. Activities that require short bursts of energy (basketball, volleyball, etc) can trigger asthma attack. Asthma patients have to consult their physician to decide what kind of exercise is acceptable for their body.

  3. Stress
Anxiety and pressure that come with stress can trigger asthma attack. Stress management is essential for asthma patients.

  4. Smoke
Cigarette smoke, air pollution, or strong aroma can cause an irritation that leads to asthma attack.

  5. Flu
Influenza, sinusitis, and other forms of bacterial and viral infection can worsen the symptoms of asthma. The same goes with high stomach acid.

  6. Medicine
People with asthma should be careful in taking medicine. Some drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen can trigger asthma attack.
