hs-cTnT Can Provide an Accurate Diagnosis of Heart Attack

Heart attack is the number of one cause of mortality in the world. Early detection of a heart attack is essential to prevent debilitating effects and death. Based on data from numerous hospitals, out of all patients going to the ER with suspected heart attack, only 10-20% are truly suffering from one. Considering limitations in the number of doctors and resources, there needs to be an effective and accurate way to diagnose a heart attack.

One of the latest technologies in diagnosing heart attack is high-sensitive cardiac troponin (hs-cTnT). This method measures the level of Troponin T content in blood. It is a protein released whenever heart tissues suffer from a damage. A high level of Troponin T indicates the possibility of a heart attack in the near future, while a low level indicates a healthy heart, and the doctor can rule out heart attack when diagnosing a patient.

The hs-cTnT method is believed to be a more sensitive and effective way in detecting a heart attack. Although further research is required to assess the accuracy of hs-cTnT, scientists hope it will one day be the golden standard in diagnosing a heart attack.
