Health Benefits of Kiwi

While most people will say that kiwi is the national fruit of New Zealand, this exotic fruit actually came from Shaanxi, China. Kiwi is rich in vitamins and nutrients, including calcium. The fragrant smell and the acidic taste are also a favourite to many people.
Research has proven that kiwi is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It contains a higher amount of Vitamin C compared to the ever-popular orange. Vitamin C has antioxidant properties, making kiwi an important fruit in fighting cell damage. Here are some benefits of kiwi for your health:

  1. Preventing Cardiovascular Disease
A research revealed that consuming two to three kiwi per day can help to thin your blood, which in turn reduce blood clotting and the level of fat in blood. Less blood clot means less chance of getting a heart attack. In other words, kiwi is beneficial in maintaining cardiovascular health.

  2. Preventing Cancer
Regular consumption of kiwi can help the repair of human genes. Genetic defect is the trigger of cancer, thus constant repair of it will minimise the risk of cancer.

  3. Maintaining Health During Pregnancy
During early stages of pregnancy, women require 400 to 800 micrograms of folic acid per day to maintain the development of foetus. Kiwi is one of the fruits that contain a high level of folic acid. Folic acid is essential in brain and cognitive development of foetus; it also prevents nerve defect.

  4. Supporting The Immune System
The high level of antioxidant in kiwi can help to strengthen your immune system. Regular consumption will help you to fight influenza.
