Effects of GMF (Genetically Modified Food)

GMF (Genetically Modified Food) is food that has undergone genetic makeup change. GMF is done under the base of creating produces with improved quality, such as higher resistance to pest attack and disease, as well as better nutritional values. Despite all the benefits of GMF, a lot of people still question whether GMF is safe to consume.

GMF is regarded as dangerous because of its health risks. One of the spotlights is on allergenicity. It is reported that a number of children in the U.S. and Europe suffer from severe allergic reaction from peanuts and other kinds of food. This is triggered by the use of GMO in one of the crops, which altered genetic makeup is perceived as an allergen to human bodies, and in turn will cause a severe allergic reaction in susceptible individuals. Besides that, the "alien" gene present in the food is believed to be able to cause unexpected negative effects. This happens because there is a possible reaction between the alien gene with the natural gene, which may be manifested as a disease.

At its core, GMF has both negative and positive impact. Rigorous testing process is mandatory before GMF can be consumed, which requires years of experiments. The government must socialise the society about GMF and its possible effects.

People have the right to decide what kind of food they consume. Thus, every company that uses GMF is encouraged to put a GMO label on its products to ensure people fully understand what goes inside their body.
