Are dairy products bad for you?

Most of us would love a glass of milk. Milk is very popular in every age group. It is also good for your health with its nutritional content. Unfortunately, until now, the debate about whether consuming milk is good or bad for you is still ongoing among experts.

For some experts, excessive milk consumption can increase the risk of heart-related diseases, due to its saturated fat content. As we know, saturated fat can lead to high cholesterol and heart disease. Therefore, they prefer to consume dairy products that contain the label 'low-fat' or 'fat-free'. Although there are still concerns about side effects, the results of a recent study found that the link between saturated fat and heart disease is not what you believe so far. Cardiologists also state that consumption of saturated fat will not cause blockages in the arteries.

Although it is still being debated, milk is a good source of calcium to maintain bone health. Calcium is a mineral that plays a role in maintaining bone strength, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission. Lack of calcium can increase the risk of osteoporosis. Some studies also show that consumption of milk can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and hip fractures. Besides calcium, milk is also rich in potassium, magnesium, vitamin D, and protein.

Milk can also be the right choice to complement a healthy diet because of its high nutritional content. For those of you who are lactose intolerant, milk may not be the right choice. Therefore, it is recommended to consume other sources of calcium such as green vegetables or soy milk.
