Having a healthy, glowing face depends on a lot of things. Besides pollution and a good skin care habit, diet also plays an important—if not the most important—role.
“It’s not just the sun that can age your skin. Diet affects skin on a cellular level. Skin is the largest organ in human’s body, and so it’s the first to show nutrient deficiency,” Paula Simpson, a biochemist and holistic nutritionist who specialises in supplement formulation for skin health, stated in an interview.
The following are fruits that can make your face healthy and glowing, as quoted from news.com.au:
- Watermelon
This summer fruit is composed of 90% water, which hydrates our body. “It is loaded with Vitamin C, an important element in healthy collagen production, Simpson said. It contains tons of antioxidants that fight free radicals, essential in stopping signs of ageing.
- Berries
Fresh produce such as blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries contain antioxidants that can protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun.
- Pineapple
Besides being packed with vitamins and minerals, pineapple contains bromelain, which is believed to be important in fighting inflammation. Less inflammation will bring comfort to sunburned skin.
- Oranges
“All citrus fruits are good for your skin,” Simpson explained. They contain Vitamin C and amino acids, such as proline and lysine. Those two play an important role in collagen production, keeping the skin looking young.
- Cucumber
We all know that cucumbers can be used to relieve puffy eyes. But Simpson said, you have to eat a cucumber. Cucumbers are mostly water, which is good for hydration.
- Tomato
Simpson called tomatoes the perfect food to protect skin cells. Thanks to lycopene, which not only increases collagen production, but also fights fine lines and wrinkles.
