The health benefits of Rooibos tea

Tea has a never ending popularity among the Brits, who are known for consuming at least 60 billion cups every year. The not-so-bitter taste contributes to its popularity among people of all groups. Just like coffee, tea also contains caffeine at a lower dose, which is why tea is usually drunk along with the consumption of snacks.

Green tea, oolong tea, black tea, and white tea are well known, but have you heard of rooibos tea? The South African tea is increasing in popularity due to its health benefits. Although rooibos tea does not taste as good as green tea, it is relatively healthier compared to other kinds of tea due to its lack of caffeine. Thus, rooibos tea is safe to be consumed by all groups including babies, children, and breastfeeding mothers.

In Japan, rooibos tea is known for its anti-ageing effects. According to scientists, rooibos tea contains the superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme, a type of antioxidants that attacks free radicals known to accelerate ageing. The lower tannins content also gives relaxing effects to the nerve, which contributes to rooibos tea being recommended by experts to help cure insomnia and headache.
