Vape, or e-cigarette, is an electronic cigarette that is considered safer compared to traditional cigarettes. It is a well-known fact that smoking traditional cigarettes can cause numerous health hazards, including heart disease and lung cancer. Due to this, some smokers have made the choice to switch to electronic cigarette. However, recent studies have proven that smoking electronic cigarette may cause the same side effects as traditional cigarettes. The chemical contents of electronic cigarettes are as, if not more, dangerous compared to traditional cigarettes.
Based on a research conducted by the European Respiratory Society International Congress, electronic cigarettes contain nicotine that may promote hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). During the study, electronic cigarette smokers experience a significant amount of increased pulse, heartbeat, and blood pressure only after 30 minutes of vaping. Those subsequently result in hardening of the arteries.
Hardening of the arteries is caused by the nicotine content in the vaping liquid. This also occurs when one smokes a traditional cigarette. Although this only happens for a short period of time in both cases, scientists believe that prolonged smoking time may lead to a permanent state of hardening.
Due to its relative newness and lack of research, smoking electronic cigarettes might just cause you more harm compared to traditional cigarettes. A researcher named Magnus Lundback goes as far as saying that electronic cigarettes increase the risk of contracting a heart attack in folds. It is a misconception to consider electronic cigarette a safer option than traditional cigarettes. Looking at the facts, avoiding smoking altogether is still the best option for your health.
