Carbohydrate (carbs) is a type of macronutrient which works as a main source of energy for the body. Even though it is often considered to be able to increase body weight and blood sugar level, consuming the sufficient amount of carbohydrate will be beneficial for body health. According to Mayo Clinic, 45-65% of our daily calories intake should be coming from carbohydrates. In this article, we are going to discuss several types of high-carb food which can be your choices. Vegetables

  • Sweet potatoes, aside from containing high carbohydrates, sweet potatoes are known for having antioxidant and antitumor compounds, according to a study conducted by Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. A baked sweet potato (with its skin) contains 23.61 grams (gr) of carbs.
  • Beets, this purple-coloured vegetable can be consumed either raw or cooked. A cup of raw beet contains 13 gr of carbs, potassium, calcium, folic acid and vitamin A. Beets also contain inorganic nitrate which is beneficial for heart health.
  • Corn, the vegetable which is often eaten as snacks has benefits for maintaining blood sugar and blood pressure. 100 gr of corn contains 25 gr of carbs and 3.36 gr of protein.

Fruits

  • Bananas, this rich-in-potassium fruit is really useful to improve the health of the heart and decreasing blood pressure. A banana may contain 26.95 gr of carbs.
  • Apple, which is rich in vitamin A and C, as well as potassium. A medium-sized apple also contains 25.13 gr of carbs.
  • Mango, which is included in tropical fruits which is full of vitamin, potassium and fibre. A cup of minced mango has 24.72 gr of carbs. Adding mangos in breakfast menu can also increase your energy for starting the activities.
