Vitamin C can shorten your ICU stay

Vitamin C is known for its benefits for the body. Vitamin C has long been believed to be able to boost the immune system, which may help us to overcome various diseases. This vitamin cannot be produced by the body. Instead, it can be obtained from supplements or food intake. Citrus fruits such as oranges or lemons are known to be rich in vitamin C.

According to the National Institutes of Health, adults need 75-90mg of Vitamin C per day. If you are ill, vitamin C levels in the body may also decrease, as a result of changes in the body's metabolism. Therefore, someone who is ill and admitted to the hospital is always encouraged to increase their vitamin intake.

Vitamin C is claimed as a vitamin that is very important for human. In a recent study published in the Nutrients journal, researchers found that administration of vitamin C can shorten the critical period in intensive care units (ICU) patients. ICU is part of a hospital that usually used to treat those who are in critical condition.

Patients who enter the ICU usually have very low levels of vitamin C. In the research, it was found that patients who consumed 1-3 gr of vitamin C per day would have their ICU time shortened by 8.6% compared to those who did not consume vitamin C at all.

The researchers hoped that these results could be used to help speed up the patient's healing process. However, further research is needed to determine the right dosage and method for each condition.
