Health Issues Related to Driving

A recent study gives a warning to all of you who drive regularly and spend a lot of your time in the vehicle. Researchers from the Australian Catholic University's Institute for Health and Ageing in Sydney, New South Wales stated that driving more than an hour per day can increase your body weight to up to 2.3 kg heavier than those who only spend less than 15 minutes in the car each day.

They studied driving habits, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, Fasting Blood Glucose Level, and various symptoms associated with heart disease and diabetes of 2,800 adults.

Another experiment have also proven that people who spend a lot of time behind the wheel have a risk of adding more than 1.5 cm in waist size, which is related to high risk of premature death.

Statistically speaking, men spend more time on the wheel compared to women, making them more susceptible to said risks. Meanwhile, another study conducted by the Oxford University stated that men with big belly have a higher risk of prostate cancer. Each time the waist circumference increases 4 inches (10 cm), the risk of dying from the disease also becomes higher.

The same opinion was expressed by Dr. Aurora Perez-Cornago from the Nuffield Department of Population Health. Aurora said that the relationship between body size and prostate cancer is a complex and varied issue, which requires more attention and research. One thing’s for sure: men with big belly has increased risk of prostate cancer and death associated with it.
