Do you love cookie dough? Its sweet taste and good smell are indeed really attractive. In Indonesia, there are already several outlets that offer cookie dough in their menu. Even though it's increasingly popular, some people still wonder, is cookie dough good for you?
Cookie dough is usually consumed raw. Unlike cakes that have to be baked, cookie dough is usually consumed shortly after the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Therefore, it is not surprising that many doubt the benefit of this dessert.
As quoted from Healthline, cookie dough is considered not safe for consumption because it contains eggs and raw flour, which is vulnerable to contamination by bacteria. Eggs are one of the basic ingredients that are often used to make cakes. Although eggs are usually sterilised by heat during the production process, the shell of the egg remains susceptible to bacterial contamination, especially salmonella. Likewise, raw flour is also susceptible to contamination by bacteria, especially E.coli. Both types of bacteria can cause problems for your health.
Even so, for lovers of cookie dough, you don't need to worry, there are a few tips you can do to enjoy it. First, choose pasteurised eggs to minimize the risk of bacterial contamination. Second, make sure you cook the flour you will use by heating it with the microwave for 2-5 minutes. Although this method can damage some of the protein in the flour, this process can reduce the risk of bacterial contamination.
