Benefits of ginger water for health

Ginger is one type of spice that is commonly used to give some aroma dishes. Not only that, ginger also has various benefits for health and beauty. Not only in Indonesia, the benefits of ginger have been known for thousands of years throughout the world. Ginger is most commonly known to be able to help relieve headaches and nausea.

Ginger can be used in a variety of ways, one of the most common is by boiling it. Easy to make, ginger water is one of the drinks that can help treat various health problems. Although many believe in the benefits of ginger, unfortunately there are only a few research that discusses the efficacy of the herb. One of them is a study conducted by Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, which found that ginger water can relieve the pain felt by migraine sufferers better than other painkillers.

Besides being able to relieve pain, ginger is also known to be able to relieve nausea. Based on the review published in Current Opinion in Supportive and Palliative Care, ginger can relieve nausea that arises as an effect of chemotherapy, postoperatively, or morning sickness. Ginger is also often used to help maintain blood sugar levels, especially for those with type 2 diabetes.

Drinking ginger water is safe for most people. However, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, someone who is undergoing blood thinning treatment is advised to consult with a doctor before consuming ginger water. Drinking ginger water excessively can also cause mild side effects such as abdominal pain and diarrhea.
