7 types of tea that can help treat digestive problems

If you are feeling unwell, drinking a glass of warm tea can be one way to relieve the symptoms. Tea has indeed been used as a beverage that can help reduce the symptoms of various types of diseases, including overcoming nausea, constipation, and other digestive disorders. As quoted from the Healthline page, here are seven types of tea that are good for your digestive system.

  1. Peppermint tea is known for its refreshing taste. This tea can also 'calm' the stomach. In several studies, it was found that the content of menthol found in peppermint can help overcome digestive problems. Peppermint oil is also known to help relieve symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
  2. Ginger tea contains gingerol and shogaol compounds that can help stimulate contractions and 'empty' the stomach. Ginger can also help reduce symptoms of nausea, cramps, bloating, and other digestive problems.
  3. Gentian root tea. Gentian root has been used to stimulate appetite and help treat digestive-related diseases. The root contains iridoids, a bitter-tasted compound that can increase the production of enzymes and digestive acids.
  4. Fennel tea can help relieve constipation symptoms and also smooth the digestive system. In some studies, it was found that fennel can help prevent ulcers. This is inseparable from the antioxidant content contained in fennel.
  5. Angelica root tea has long been used as an herbal medicine to treat digestive problems. Studies showed that the polysaccharides contained in angelica root can protect the digestive system from damage.
  6. Dandelion tea. Results of studies showed that the compounds contained in dandelion can stimulate the contraction of the muscles of the digestive system, thereby reducing the risk of constipation.
  7. Marshmallow root tea contains polysaccharides which can help stimulate cells that are responsible for producing mucus to coat the digestive tract. This certainly can reduce the risk of constipation. In addition, marshmallow root also contains antioxidant compounds that can prevent inflammation.
