Today, one of the most promising research is research regarding regenerative medicine. Lots of research are conducted to find a way to use a cell that can be turned into a multi-cell that can be “moulded” to fit the needs of covering or repairing the damage on another cell. One of the type of cells mentioned that had been developed until today is stem cells. Stem cell is a type of cell that can fit into the shape of other tissues or organs.

Based on the research that is being conducted, it is known that stem cell can also be found inside the epidermis or the outer tissues of human skin. With this research, it is known that stem cell can be used to regenerate skin, especially on the outer part/epidermis.

The epidermis will experience ageing as you get older and also due to some other factors, such as UV exposure or microorganism disorders. One of the damages that will happen on the skin’s epidermis is keratinisation, which is a process where the skin tissues become harder, as one of the signs of skin ageing. Stem cell can be used to avoid this process, or at least slow it down. With stem cell injection on the skin surface/the epidermis, skin regeneration will occur, and the moulded stem cells will repair the damaged skin tissues.

The application of this stem cell can be done by creating cosmetics that are originated from plants’ stem cells, for example, stem cells from apple tree which then made into cosmetics. Stem cell was taken from the plants’ meristem tissues, later to be extracted into one of the ingredients that will be mixed into cosmetics. In practice, the use of stem cell as one of the cosmetics’ ingredients needed strict supervision so it will not have bad side-effects on humans.
