Guacamole is a dipping sauce from Mexico. This green coloured sauce is made from avocado, salt, and lime juice. The sour and fresh taste makes this sauce loved by its connoisseurs. Moreover, guacamole is known to have fewer calories compared with other dipping sauces which use sour cream or mayo cream as its base ingredient. A portion of guacamole (about two tbs) contains 45 calories.
Not only that, but guacamole also has lots of benefits for our health. Avocado in the sauce is known to have various benefits for the body, one of them is to maintain our heart health. Avocado contains Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFA) which may help to maintain the cholesterol levels in the blood. Not only cholesterol but many studies also showed that avocado may reduce triglyceride levels in the blood and increase the amount of “good” cholesterol (HDL)
Guacamole is also loaded with fibre, so this sauce is good for you who are on a diet. A portion of guacamole contains about 2 grams of fibre. Therefore, this side sauce can make the consumer feel full. Aside from fibre, avocado in guacamole also make that sauce rich in nutrition. Avocado contains 20 different kinds of vitamin and mineral. The potassium in an avocado is higher compared to banana. 100 grams of avocados contain 14% daily needs of potassium, compared to 10% in banana.
Often used as a side sauce for snacks, to make guacamole more healthy, nuts or chillis are recommended to be added in the mixture. Also, compared with salted tortilla chips, it will be better if guacamole is eaten with vegetables such as carrot and lettuce, or wheat bread.
